Meer info Stationery with pre-printed London address. 41 lines. Folded and creased, edge tears, some staple rust. Holbrook Jackson (1874-1948) was a journalist and a great bibliophile, and wrote many books about books. This is probably about his 1946 'The Reading of Books': it contains a few errors. 'My dear Dan' or Daniel let him know and this funny letter thanks him for it. 'I have felt like a managery-lion in a den of forest-based Daniels (it ought to be geoffries!) each with the aspect of a reviewer of books licking his chops at the chance of a short-list to discomfort an already deflated author.' Fortunately, a second edition appeared in 1947 with improvements. Jackson praises Daniel for 'your broadcast on American Books', which is better than the others that had been heard on 'the Third Programme' up to that time. This BBC cultural channel had only been on the air since 29 September 1946. Jackson's handwriting is beautiful but does not reveal itself easily - sleuths who enjoy puzzling and deciphering can have a field day with this letter. Daniel Bunting (1890-1967) worked a.o. as a reader for Jonathan Cape. He published several collections of essays under the pseudonym Daniel George.
