| Meer info | Original manuscript. 21.4 x 14.5 cm. On the reverse of stationery from the Apollo Hotel in Amsterdam. Attached to an A4 sheet with a strip of acid-free tape. Ontwerp door de auteur zelf! De oorspronkelijke editie verscheen op 21 april 1971, maar de Nederlandse vertaling verscheen al begin december 1970. De tekst van dit ontwerp komt grotendeels overeen met de tekst op het omslag van de eerste druk uit 1971 ('by the author of The Painted Bird and Steps/ Winner of the National Book Award '), met dit verschil dat als uitgeverij De Bezige Bij genoemd wordt. Wellicht was er sprake van dat De Bezige Bij de eerste uitgave in het Engels zou verzorgen? == Designed by the author himself! The original edition appeared on April 21, 1971, but the Dutch translation was already published in the beginning of December, 1970 by De Bezige Bij in Amsterdam. The text of this design largely matches the text on the cover of the first edition from 1971 ("by the author of The Painted Bird and Steps/ Winner of the National Book Award"), except that De Bezige Bij is mentioned as the publisher. Perhaps there was talk of De Bezige Bij publishing the first English edition, instead of Harcourt Brace Jovanovich? |
