There is a woodcut vignette on the titlepage depicting the Frisian heraldic crest, there is a headpiece and there are some decorative initials. Anton Brugmans (1732-1789) was a Dutch physicist who proposed a two-fluid theory of magnetism. He was a student in Franeker from the age of 14 and graduated at 18. In 1756 he became a philosophy professor at the Franeker Hogeschool. This work is the printed version of his inaugural speech. |
