With some decorative initials, head- and tailpieces. Ex library copy: "Bibl. Semin. S. J. Prov. Neerl." and "(...) Theol. College S. J. Maastricht". With some mathemetical notes in pencil on the inside of the front cover, and three endearing and somewhat mischievous contemporary notes in ink at the bottom of page 176: "Keert de 8 volgende Bladeren om, en gij sult vinden het vervolgh" (turn the following 8 leaves to find the continuation), page 192: "keert om 16 bladers van terugh, en gij zult het vervolgh vinden" (turn the previous 16 leaves to find the continuation) and page 208: "Keert de 8 volgende Bladers om, en gij sult het vervolgh vinden" (turn the following 8 leaves to find the continuation). It is great fun to follow such instructions from the past, despite the disappointment that turning back 16 leaves doensn't give you a follow up note, nor does the third instruction to turn the following 8 leaves. Or could it be purely in refence to the content on those pages? To me it comes across as a practical joke. |
