Etching and engraving on chine collé by Godfried Schutze van Houten (1807 - 1869) after Jacob van Strij (1756 - 1815), sheet size: 371 x 442 mm., platemark 282 x 348 mm. Beautiful impression in very good condition of the second state (of two), a repaired tear form the left margin a little into the image, some foxing in the margins and a pencil annotation in the lower right and left corners. Image fine and crisp. Ref.: Kramm p.757 Godfried Schutze van Houten was born in Rotterdam in 1807. He died in the same city in 1869, and was active as painter, etcher, engraver and draughtsman. He was a student of Gillis de Meijer and made a number of landscape etchings after Jan Kobell and Jacob van Strij. |
