Below the portrait a frieze depicting the assassination of Debry in 1799.Etching (frieze) and aquatint (portrait) on wove paper, sheet size 324 x 496 mm., platemark 282 x 435 mm., aquatint by Charles Levachez (active 1760-1820), etching by Jean Duplessi-Bertaux (1750-1818) after his own design, 1800.An interesting sheet, mixing two graphic techniques for very different effects. In fair condition, the margins soiled and creased, with small tears. A stain in the lower left corner of the image area, and a smaller stain in the top edge of the image area. |
