Etching and engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 243 x 156 mm., platemark 127 x 83 mm., made by Jan Wandelaar after his own design. This print was used as a title vignette in: Covens & Mortier's 'Atlas Nouveau, contenant toutes les parties du Monde [...]', Amsterdam : Covens & Mortier, 1742. However, there is printed text immediately above and below the image on the title page (and the page is a lot larger than here), so this may be a proof printing or separate printing of the plate used in that book. In excellent condition, minimal soiling in the lower left margin corner. |
