In 1737 the two men travelled to London together. Garrick first appeared on stage in London in 1741 and went on to achieve great success as an actor, playwright and theatre manager, becoming the most celebrated theatrical personality of the eighteenth century. Stipple and line engraving on laid paper, sheet size139 x 117 mm., by an anonymous engraver after the portrait of Sir Joshua Reynolds, c. 1800 In good condition, cropped to the image edge. The caption was cropped and attached at the bottom of the image. Some small stains and soiling in the image edges. Garrick became immortal as the London Garrick Club was named after him. |
