| Meer info | Portrait of Willem van Alphen Engraving of Willem van Alphen. Willem van Alphen, son of Jan van Alphen and Geertruid Paulusdochter Buis, was born in Leiden in 1608. At just twenty-three, he was appointed Secretary of the Court of Holland, Zeeland, and Friesland-a position he held until September 27, 1684, when he stepped down in favor of his son-in-law, Mr. Pieter van Starck, who was married to his daughter Angela van Alphen. Van Alphen made a significant contribution to the legal profession of his time with his Formulary Book, also known as The Parrot. This work contained models for various legal documents-petitions, mandates, conclusions, memoranda, legal notices, and similar writings. It was highly regarded and went through at least six editions, the last of which was published in Utrecht in 1720, in two volumes. Anonymous engraver.
