| Meer info | David Brooks is an op-ed columnist for The New York Times and appears regularly on “PBS NewsHour,” NPR’s “All Things Considered” and NBC’s “Meet the Press.” He teaches at Yale University and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is the bestselling author of The Social Animal: The Hidden Sources of Love, Character, and Achievement; Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There; and On Paradise Drive: How We Live Now (And Always Have) in the Future Tense. He has three children and lives in Maryland. It is ironic that Michael Kinsley ''accuses'' David Brooks of being French at the end of his review of ''On Paradise Drive,'' and even more so that Brooks himself seems to be so anti-French. For if, as Kinsley points out, Brooks's term ''Bobo'' (for ''bourgeois bohemian'') didn't quite catch on in the United States, it has certainly fulfilled Kinsley's ''test of a successful coinage'' in France, where it has come to define a whole new generation of young, well-off yet socially conscious consumers and where many, many people have adopted the term without knowing where it came from.
