| Meer info | Some cartoons are put on display in museums and art galleries. But rarely do we realize that it also works the other way around. There are museum pieces and other works of art to be found in cartoons. When these works of art are isolated for consideration, we are newly awakened to artwork decisions in both the cartoon environment and our own. Artoons might even be one universal enormous small art form because all periods and mediums of art are possible. In any case, after we have taken notice of Artoons, we look evermore closely at these other-worldly masterpieces we hold between our fingertip. The numbered copies of the book are sold with a wooden bookstand in a numbered box. Artoons is based on the observation that the relationship between cartoons and art sometimes appears a little one-sided. The likes of Roy Lichtenstein ensure that cartoons feature in art galleries, but do cartoons ever return the favour? Do works of art appear in kids comics? That’s what designer Krista Rozema of Dutch communication agency KesselsKramer wanted to find out. She trawled comics from Europe and America, finding dozens of often tiny paintings, sculptures and other objects in the houses and surroundings of cartoon characters.
