This biography is a joy to read, she recalls many amusing and fascinating events in her remarkable career from the times she spent with Leonard Wooley in the UK to the many years working in Syria, Iraq and Egypt with such noted archaeologists as Flinders Petrie. This book covers her career from the time she left Australia as a young graduate though her experiences during the second world war and eventually in her later life as a well loved and respected local throughout Egypt. Alas Veronica is no longer with us, but I'm sure she is somewhere having a good laugh. A must for those interested in the history of archaeology. |
