| Meer info | Full red morocco leather binding, gilded with the coat of arms of Pius IX, rich and elegant decoration on both sides: a filet frame and a Baroque-style frame, with abundant leaves and flowers, coat of arms of Pope Pius IX in the middle, spine with four raised bands with author, title and indication of the volume engraved in gold, gilt edges, dentelles inside. Second edition of an interesting work by the abbot and professor Dubois on A. J. de Rancé, initiator in 1664 in the monastery of Soligny-la-Trappe of the reform of the Cistercian monks and, therefore, of the congregation of Trappist monks. Paper foxed/browned due to inferior paper quality, but the lithographs (on better paper) mostly clear and in good condition. Fine binding with the arms Pope Pius IX, to who this work is also dedicated. Probably the first presentation copy. |
