From over a hundred finished compositions he created roughly three hundred works. The principle of division can be traced through all the genres, whether Klee worked in lead pencil, India ink, or pen, in oil, tempera, watercolor, or glue-based paint. The art historians Wolfgang Kersten and Osamu Okuda have succceeded in the sometimes extremely difficult identification of the separate parts.
