Hanako was a large white chicken bred in Canada exclusively to efficiently lay eggs. Hata kept her in his studio, a room in a building, when she was 30 days old. In the course of a year he shot her in color and monochrome pictures, Hanako was beautiful, acting to make her presence felt.
