Meer info Nice and clean copy in contemporary binding of a notable work in ascetic catholic spirituality. Luis de Lapuente (also La Puente, D'Aponte, de Ponte, Dupont) having entered the Society of Jesus, studied under the celebrated Suarez. Though not reckoned among Spanish classics, his works are so replete with practical spirituality that they claim for him a place among the most eminent masters of asceticism. Besides a mystical commentary in Latin on the Canticle of Canticles, he wrote in Spanish a.o. : " Life of Father Baltasar Alvarez"; "Spiritual Directory for Confession, Communion and the Sacrifice of the Mass" and "Meditations on the Mysteries of Our Holy Faith" (1805), by which he is best known. The last work was translated in 10 languages. The meditations are divided in 3 parts, dealing subsequently with I: christ birth and childhood until his baptism, II: his teachings; III passion and death. They appeared for the first time in Dutch in 1614 in 2 volumes translated by Joannes Mans. The second edition of this translation was published in 1632. According to the Dutch Central catalog (NCC) in 1654 an new edition of the second volume only from this particular translation was issued (which was not unusual as in 1626 there seems to have been an edition of the third part only published by Bellet.(Other divisions of the original text were not uncommon as well). According to BCNI 8526 however the 1654 part forms the sequel to the 1632 volume, but in the former there is no mentioning of second edition (den tweede druk) as is in the latter. Not in STCV on-line. Library stamp on free first endpaper. Cf. BCNI 8526; De Backer-Sommervogel VI, 1274.
