| Meer info | - Study by the influentual Belgian statistican Adolphe Quetelet, who in 1835 forwarded his conception of the average man in : Sur l'homme et le développement de ses facultés , ou essau de physique social. The average man constituted the true subject of social physics en and by studying the average man Quételet hoped to filter out the characteristics which make for diversity in a population. By doing so he focuses on the central facts which constitute the social body itself. Quételet quickly came to view his construct as real, a subject matter in it own right. In this study he describes the social system (the people, the nation and the state) and the constitutiong factors. From the physical, moral and intellectual qualities of man, he describes the laws that rule the physical, moral and intellectual state, and its progress. |
