In the old days the people of Arild struggled to survive under harsh living conditions. Fishing of herring was their primary livelihood. Eventually some of the villagers became seamen with the entire world as their place of work. When the artists and summer guests arrived, the image of an idyllic Arild began to take form. Today Arild is a beloved village with a few hundred permanent inhabitants and thousands of recreational residents and visiting "bathing guests". This book is an effort to provide a glimpse of Arild in the past and show her beauty during all the seasons of the year. |
