After beginning to deal with conceptual art, he found figuration and became a key member of the Italian Transavanguardia movement, along with his countrymen Francesco Clemente, Mimmo Paladino, Nicola De Maria, and Sandro Chia. The movement was at its peak during the 1980s and was part of the worldwide movement of Neo-Expressionist painters. In his artistic understanding, painting and drawing are not hierarchically separated from each other. Sculpture is also not an exclusive genre in his works, but part of a larger vision. The catalogue provides an overview of the artist's work created between 1982 and 1988. |
