Het gebouw werd tussen 1980 en 1987 gebouwd naar een ontwerp van de Oostenrijkse architect Wilhelm Holzbauer en de Nederlandse architect Cees Dam. Bevat naast ingeplakte afdrukken van 46 originele foto's van Frits Dijkhoff (1937-) van de bouw, ook een afdruk van de maquettefoto (Gemeente Amsterdam) en 2 luchtfoto's (Aerophoto Schiphol). Frits Dijkhoff wordt beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste fotografen die de architectuur van de moderne tijd in Nederland heeft vastgelegd.
