| Meer info | De arts John Crawfurd (1783-1868), in dienst bij de Britse East India Company, was tijdens het Britse tussenbestuur op Java in 1811-1816 bestuursambtenaar aldaar. Onder meer was hij resident aan het hof te Jogjakarta. Behalve arts en bestuursambtenaar was hij ook een getalenteerd taalkundige en etnoloog. Hij ontwikkelde zich tot een kenner van het Oud-Javaans en van het Javaans uit zijn tijd. |
