| Meer info | Human Zoo is a photo book covering Erik Kessel’s site-specific photographic intervention of a series of collected, found and re-appropriated images at the Zoological Collection of the Museum of the University of Latvia. Infiltrating the zoological displays in a humorous and associative way, these carefully selected images interact with the original animal exhibits, wittily showing the odd connections that humans and animals share. These photos prove that humans often behave as strangely and seemingly inexplicably as the animals with which these images are paired with. As Erik himself explains: “Human Zoo gives human animals a taste of their own medicine, putting prime examples of the human species on display as artefacts behind the glass with the other animals, where we belong.” Human Zoo was commissioned by the 1st Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art, RIBOCA1, Everything Was Forever Until It Was No More, curated by Katerina Gregos. 2 June – 28 October 2018. |
