Curated by museum director Marcia Tucker, the show examined the intersection between life and art through twelve artists who "drastically alter their lives as a way of making art, and through their work provide living metaphors for states of being, modes of behavior, and other ontological concerns." Exhibited works that embody this ethos include Tehching Hsieh's yearlong performance in which he vowed not to "look at, make, read about, or talk about art, or enter a museum or gallery," and Michael Osterhout's fictional persona "Kristian Kohl," through whom he created faux abstract expressionist paintings.
