The work of van Lieshout is mostly connected to artists like the american Joel-Peter Witkin and others. Wijnand van Lieshout (Tilburg 1940) Wijnand van Lieshout followed his art training in Tilburg, Maastricht and Antwerp. Initially he made staged paintings, but at the beginning of the 1970s he started to make photographs. Van Lieshout has developed a unique form in bizarre and poetic still lifes about eroticism, decadence, decay, war and other provocative themes. He had expositions in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, USA and Japan. Van Lieshout received several awards in 1999 and was included in the authoritative lexicon history of Dutch photography.
