The merging of security and art can be seen in the EU's longest glass art installation on Europol's 250-metre long security 'fence', creating transparent protection for one of the safest and most secure buildings in Europe, which was officially opened by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands in July 2011. Through other artworks, you can experience a 15-minute photographic walk through the Member States of the European Union, see the long epoxy 'curtain' created in situ to connect four architectural levels, and also the huge, light, floating sculpture that represents a symbiosis of nature and technology. As well as state-of-the-art design, Europol's new headquarters has an extremely low carbon footprint, thanks to the environmentally-friendly architecture and features installed, which includes 4600m2 of green sedum roofs. |
