| Meer info | Housed in a natural canvas covered folder and black slipcase, 10 large unbound colour screen prints on hand made paper titled & signed in pencil by the artist Ronald King Limited edition of 150 copies, this No.8, full text of the play. Large Folio 50 x 35 cm, 60 pages in 15 unstitched four page sections. Printed on J. Green mould-made paper. Ten silk screen mask designs, all titled and initialed with the entire text of the play printed letter-press in 14 pt Plantin. An important early work from Ron King and Circle Press, Macbeth features bold, colorful mask designs titled after characters in the play. According to the artist, this book was the first for which he learned to set type and printed in letterpress by himself. Based on the Arden version of Shakespeare’s play published in 1912, the text is 14pt. Plantin, hand-set by Walter Taylor who assisted King. King’s visual interpretation of Shakespeare’s characters is strikingly modern. The artist created his mask designs by taking photos from magazines and collaging them together and then incorporating images of ordinary objects such as light bulbs, shoes, lipsticks, and chairs. The collages were then made into photo stencils, resulting in the ten hors texte silkscreen illustrations that accompany the play. Each print is titled and initialed by the artist. Loose-as-issued, this book was printed on Barcham Green 246 lb. mould-made paper and is housed in a paper wrapper. A chemise covered in natural cream-colored cloth and a slipcase covered in black cloth protect the volume. Macbeth was published in an edition of 150 copies with 15 artist’s proofs and 5 copies hors commerce. In addition to the books, there is a separate edition of 20 fully signed and numbered prints of each of the ten images in the book printed on hand-made paper by the artist. This copy is numbered 8 and is signed by the artist at the limitation. NOTES ON CONDITION Slipcase has signs of wear and one corner of the slipcase is slightly bumped |
