Given that we daily come into contact with plant or plant products, the potential incidence for adverse reaction is great. The major types of eruption are described with details of the plants that cause them. The types of reaction described include irritant reactions, contact urticaria and phototoxic reactions. In particular, plants which cause allergic dermatitis are reviewed comprehensively, with descriptions of the plants, clinical features and detailed information on patch testing. A separate chapter covers poison ivy and poison oak, the major cause of contact dermatitis in the United States. Further chapters cover plant identification and the preparation of plant material for patch testing. Subsequent chapters describe aspects of occupational exposure to plants, reactions to plants in food handlers and exposure to plant products in perfumes and cosmetics.
