| Meer info | The trial of Abdul Malik for the murder of Joseph Skerritt commanded more attention in and out of the Caribbean than any other trial held in those parts. This was because Malik (formerly known as Michael de Freitas) lived in England for many years where he established himself as a Black Moslem and advocate of Black Power. His book 'Michael X' was a big seller. In 1971 he returned to his native country. In this publication on the Malik case every effort was made to give a full account of the proceedings in the Assize court. Nothing of substance was deleted from the outline of the case by the Attorney General and his assistants. Legal arguments during the trial and the lesser important portions of evidence are summarised as are the arguments in the preliminary objection which is an Appendix to the book. |
