The original title has been blotted out in ink and replaced by PORTRAIT OF MRS SIDDONS A Study in Four Parts. Paper cut silhouette of a lady pasted on front endpaper. Handwritten on this page, in several entries: “To E.M. with the author’s love and affection.” [in pencil:] “First ed. Author, presentation copy to her husband Ernest Milton.” [under silhouette:] “Mrs Siddons in her (?) character of Jane Shore.
