| Meer info | The author was a German sailor, for years being in the service of the VOC. He sailed on the East Indiamen Sion, Belois, Spiegel and Donau. Very rare. He sailed on the East Indiamen Sion, Belois, Spiegel and Donau. He began his great journeys in 1688, which took him through all four parts of the world for 22 years. He first went to Venice, where he worked for a time as a baker's servant, then took service on a Dutch privateer, which was cruising in the Mediterranean on French merchants. After 8 years he wanted to return home, then entered the service of the Dutch East India Company, visited Brazil and the Capeland, lived for several years in Ceylon, then returned to Holland. In the following years he undertook a voyage to the unknown Southland and then spent a long time in Batavia and in the Near Eastern possessions of the Dutch. In 1710 he arrived back in Memmingen and wrote a description of his journey, which was printed several times under the title: "Der durch Europam lauffende, durch Asiam fahrende, an Americam und Africam anländende und in Ostindien lange zeit bleibenen Schwabe" (Memmingen 1712, 1713) |
