Ramseyer was a Swiss-born Basel missionary, who was captured by the Ashanti in 1869 together with his wife, Kühne and the French trader Marie-Joseph Bonnat. Then began a four-year imprisonment and a subsequent walk through bush, steppe and swamps. The captivity of the missionaries was one of the reasons for the punitive expedition of the English in 1874. |
