Translation of “Die Deutsche Emin Pascha-Expedition”. This expedition, also known as the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition, was a German colonial expedition to Central Africa from 1887 to 1889. The expedition was led by Carl Peters. One of the objectives was to rescue Emin Pasha, a German who had been appointed governor of Equatoria (South Sudan). Emin Pasha had become isolated in Equatoria due to the Mahdist War, a conflict between the Mahdist Sudanese and the Ottoman-Egyptian government.
