Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa: Including a Sketch of Sixteen Yearsà Residence in the Interior of Africa, and a Journey From the Cape of Good Hope to Loanda on the West Coast; Thence Across the Continent, Down the River Zambesi to the Easter Ocean. Both volumes bears the coat of arms BOOKPLATE of Inigo W. Jones. Handsomely bound in contemporary 3/4 leather over marbled boards. With folding lithographed frontispiece of Victoria Falls (signed in the plate by Whymper), a steel engraving of the author facing page 1, complete with all the full-page engravings and line drawings in the text, and two folding maps tabbed-in at the end. Not with the extra page 8s, no tinted plates and no advertisements at end of book (probably the true first edition). The extremities of the boards are moderately rubbed. The hinges are tight, and the contents tightly bound and free of foxing (exept the portrait) or soiling. Overall in good+ condition. |
