| Meer info | This volume ?contains a critical edition and translation of the apocryphal collection known collectively as the ?Acts of Philip (APh). The accompanying commentary by F. Amsler encompasses the entire work, with the exception of the ?Martyrdom of Philip (Mart.). (?) As the editors point out, APh was not very well known in antiquity. (?) In their introduction to the edition, the editors offer a thorough description of the surviving Greek witnesses to APh, along with a discussion of the language of the work, pervious editions, modern translations, and ancient versions of the work. (?) Where possible, the Greek texts (?) appear on facing pages, aligned for ready comparison. The editing of the Greek text is exemplary. (?) The idiomatic translation helpfully clarifies obscurities in the Greek text. (?) The interest in this excellent edition and commentary will not be confined to specialists on ?Acts of Philip?.?
