Temkin investigates the changing relationships between secular, Jewish and Christian approaches to healing, in order to discover how a medical system originating in a pagan social context not only survived, but flourished, in a Christian world. T. then looks at the relationship between Christian and Hippocratic views of healing. (...) Christian theology began to make use of Hippocratic theories and ideals.
