After finishing this lengthy work, readers will be struck by the sheer volume of data examined and by the clarity of its layout, designed to make Mycenaean accessible even to those who do not possess a prior knowledge of linguistics. However, an approach that privileges description and statistics over critical analysis runs the risk of being not much more than a thorough, but arid, compilation, and so of losing much of its potential appeal to the uninitiated.
