| Meer info | In this book, Behe examines the speed of the Titanic during its fatal voyage, arguing that speed played an important role in the disaster. He studies the reports of icebergs that were received in advance and examines whether or not those warnings were taken seriously by the Titanic's crew. He also examines certain political and intriguing aspects: he argues that the White Star Line may have withheld information or influenced staff not to reveal certain truths. He bases his arguments on primary sources (eyewitness accounts, testimonies, investigation reports) and attempts to construct a substantiated reconstruction of what may have actually happened that night. An important motive in his analysis is that safety and commercial interests may have been in conflict: by sailing at high speed, profits could be maximised, but risks were taken in view of warnings. |
