| Meer info | More pictures will be sent upon request. Ruth is one of the 4 book that Arieh Allweil (1901-1967) made to illustrate the Biblical Five Scrolls. Born in Galicia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Allweil moved permanently to Eretz Israel (Mandatory Palestine) in 1926. First edition was published in 1939. The second edition contained the same 26 linocuts printed from the block. What was new to the main body of the book was a second plate in red to highlight parts of the text pages and a caption in red above each of the full-page linocuts. For the second edition Allweil also created a vibrant black-and-red dust cover, here bound in. Hebrew. Judaica. Jewish art. |
