| Meer info | The square was designed by the Leuven architect Claude Fisco. The first, provisional monument on the Martyrs Square was designed by Tilleman Francois Suys, from Bruges. The plans for the construction of the crvpt were by the architect Louis Roelandt, who was born in Nieuwpoort and worked mainly in Ghent. The Martyrs Monument itself is the work of the sculptor Willem Geefs, who came from Borgerhout near Antwerp. Rich illustrated book, hundreds of plates & illustrations, plan, epilogue, bibliography.
