The new periodical 91 Degrees is a crossover magazine aimed at architects during their limited free time away from the office and construction site. More than an architecture magazine, it chooses a single thematic focus for each of its issues and then takes up a broad and varied array of different aspects within it. Its articles deal with literature, art, and travel; technology, photography, and research; as well as house and home, fashion, and sports. As its subtitle rightly emphasizes, 91 Degrees offers its readers "more than architecture." Issue #2 is no exception - it deals with the broad subject of color. The various sections of the magazine illuminate color in its many different facets. The interview places the Japanese architecture firm SANAA under the microscope - together with its hallmark, the color white. Tobias Moorstedt offers an informative look at the production of colored fiber cement, and the photographs of Meinhard Hofer and Josef Gottwald (ONEYE) bring into view the Albanian capital Tirana, widely regarded as one of Europe's most colorful cities. |
