| Meer info | A beautiful and classic reference work on antique Malay and Peranakan silver, by Henry Ling Roth (1855-1925): anthropologist, author, and museum curator. A detailed introduction covers the origins and history of patterns and designs, religious themes, manufacturing procedures, and the marketing of Malay silverware at the time, including several maps. With over 250 original illustrations of saucers, cups, pillow plates, belt buckles, tobacco and sireh boxes and other personal, ritual and household objects: a collection representative of the refined silversmith's art as it existed in the Malay Archipelago during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Condition: very good – text and illustrations clean and unmarred throughout. Two dated signatures (1919/1985) on cover leaf; penciled price on end leaf. Sewed binding predominantly strong throughout though little slack at a few pages; Between front board and cover leaf, binding bit cracked. End boards bit age stained and lightly spotted. Light shelf wear top/bottom edges, corners a little rounded. Format: 28.5x22 cm. Weight: 2076 gr. |
