"Behind the exhibition title "Wolkenstricker (Track 2)" is the Belgian painter Leo Reijnders, who has been giving artists the opportunity in Antwerp for five years on the local radio station "Radio Centraal" in his program "De Wolkenbreier" (= "the Cloud Stricker") to present themself. For example the legendary Chris Burden, a pioneer in terms of performance, body art and installation. Reijnders himself describes his programs as 'mental self-portraits', 'air sculptures' or 'works of art in the ether'. The model here is Paul McCarthy, who at the beginning of the 1970s offered artists in America a platform on the radio. Leo Reijnders' pictures represent a complex world of ideas and concepts, a world caught between narrative painting and colorful diary drawings in small format. His works are reminiscent of children's drawings, of cartoons that use simple lines to reduce the relationship between nature, humans and animals to the essentials. Here Reijnders takes on the role of the narrator who loves ambiguity. This opens up a series of images for the viewer, some of which are figurative, that are cheeky, ironic and questionable."
