The book tells the story of Saudi Aramco beginning in the 1920s when the first explorers for oil made initial forays into what – to the outside world – was largely unknown territory and would become in 1932 the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In 1933, King Abdulaziz, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia, granted a concession to Standard Oil of California, or Socal. After five years of exploration, oil was discovered in March 1938 at Dammam Well No. 7. Since then, the company – renamed Aramco in 1944 and then Saudi Aramco in 1988 – has grown from an oil production powerhouse to a fully integrated global petroleum enterprise. Along the way, the company has weathered hard times and endured cycles of boom and bust – but it has never lost sight of its vision to be the world’s most reliable supplier of petroleum energy. Energy to the World chronicles the company’s long legacy of excellence and innovation and its contributions to the development of Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure and economy.
